About this deal

This is less common than the step-down i7-1165G7 I’ve used in a bunch of different consumer laptops. But the Latitude 7320 needs the higher-end unit because it supports vPro, Intel’s business platform. When we ran the 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark, the Latitude 7320 scored below the 4,798 average at 4,227. However, the 7320 did stave off its competitors. The Surface Pro 7+ scored 3,215, followed by the EliteBook, which landed a very sad 1,229. Dell Latitude 7320 battery life Intel's U-series processors, now called UP3, have been great at productivity for a long time, but now you can do more creative work on them. There's some actual graphics power here. Photo editing is no problem, nor is FHD video editing. It's a great product.

Dell tends to have a minimalist approach to bloatware when it comes to its business laptops. However, the company preloaded the Latitude 7320 with an array of proprietary software to help ensure you get the most out of your laptop. We evaluated the Dell Latitude 7320 Detachable as one of the three major offerings in the tablet space for 2021, along with the Microsoft Surface Pro 7+and the Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 1. We’ve highlighted the Dell Latitude 7320 Detachable in red, and the Surface Pro 7+, its chief competitor, in yellow in the charts below.Incidentally, Dell configured its Windows power/performance slider at the midrange setting. Microsoft uses the lowest-performance/longest-battery life setting instead, which does make a small difference; you can read the Surface Pro 7+ review to discover how much. While you’re not going to buy the Dell Latitude 7320 Detachable to play games, it’s worth noting that the 11th-gen Core i7 within it falls into the “Tiger Lake” generation, noteworthy for its advanced, integrated Iris Xe GPU that pushes graphics performance into discrete-GPU territory. You’ll see that performance represented within the graphics benchmarks we offer at the end of the review. The 7320 comes with an integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU and performs smoothly while watching videos or playing some games. Playing Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Gathering Storm in 1080p, our unit scored an average of 20 frames per second, which is below the 28-fps premium laptop average. The Surface Pro 7+ scored just 15fps. The Dell Latitude 7320 is the perfect laptop for the kind of work life that no longer exists for many of us. It offers great portability, but it’s just as comfortable to work on at home as it is in the office.

The Latitude 7320 took 17 minutes and 16 seconds to convert a 4K video to 1080p on the Handbrake test. It was nearly a full minute slower than the category average (16:31). The EliteBook had a faster time of 16:25, while the Surface Pro dragged its feet with a time of 23:41. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't have a 4K option again. This is something that's competing with the EliteBook 800 and ThinkPad T-series of the world, just like the Latitude 9000 should be competing with EliteBook 1000 and ThinkPad X1. A 4K option would be nice. The Dell Latitude 7320 has a 63Wh battery, which is notably larger than the 52Wh of the Dell XPS 13. The Latitude 7320 has an average brightness of 260 nits, which is short of the 392-nit average. The EliteBook x360 scored 344 nits, while the Surface Pro 7+ outshone the group with 358 nits. I didn’t find the Latitude's display to be dim, but the test proved otherwise.

Ports & Slots

Dell Command updates monitor your system to ensure it is always up-to-date with the latest BIOS, drivers and firmware. Dell Optimizer software is a beautiful tool that analyzes your system in real-time and alerts you to anything that needs tweaking. Last, but certainly not least, is my favorite piece of Dell software: Dell Power Manager not only optimizes battery usage but gives the user fine control of how your battery is used.

The Dell Latitude 7320’s touchpad isn’t on the same level as the keyboard. For one, it has a plastic surface rather than a textured glass one. A laptop of this price shouldn’t come with a plastic touchpad, even if it does feel quite similar to glass on first touch. The webcam is also Windows Hello-enabled, so that it will learn to look for you and recognize you—literally. One of the features Dell has begun bundling within its laptops and tablets is Wake on Approach, which, if enabled, literally keeps an eye out to see if something it recognizes as a person walks into camera range. Windows Hello then turns on to try and detect your face. It’s a bit unnerving, but it works. Jump into work: Power on by opening the lid, then stay synced thanks to Modern Standby capability. Log in instantly with ExpressSign-in proximity sensor or optional fingerprint reader in the power button. The touchscreen display is highly responsive and accurate, so I’m disappointed that this Latitude 7320 doesn’t come with a stylus. It seems like a wasted opportunity, especially at this price point. It is a significant swing and miss for Dell. Dell Latitude 7320 audioUnlike the coterie of paid “crapware” that normally accompanies consumer PCs, the business-oriented Dell Latitude 7320 offers stellar utilities: Dell Command | Update, which handles BIOS updates; Dell Power Optimizer, which allows you to manipulate the fan speed and performance settings; and Dell Optimizer, which allows the user to “optimize” for particular applications, and controls the Wake on Approach feature. Before I joined the tech-journalism ranks, I wrote on topics as diverse as Borneo's rain forests, Middle Eastern airlines, and Big Data's role in presidential elections. A graduate of Middlebury College, I also have a master's degree in journalism and French Studies from New York University. Battery life on this laptop is phenomenal too. I can easily get over a dozen hours of battery life on here, with the battery slider on one notch above battery saver and the screen on about 25% brightness. Dell has been making some bold battery life claims, and it's nice seeing it deliver.

In our synthetic benchmark tests, the Latitude 7320 was the victor of our group with a score of 5,292 during the Geekbench 5.3 overall performance test. It performed above the 4,430 premium laptop average. The Surface Pro 7+ (Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU) placed second with 4,825, while the EliteBook closed our group (Intel Core i9-9980HK CPU) with a score of 4,041.

Sleek looks. Enhanced productivity.

Of course, if you’ll use this laptop as part of a company with careful IT policies, there’s a good chance you won’t be able to install these anyway. Battery life We’ve included the business-minded HP Elite Folio in our charts below as well. Because it uses an Arm processor, some of our standard benchmarks couldn’t be run.
