About this deal

Each of these cards will help you harness the power of the Dragons at your command, and that’s all anyone can really ask for. With Draconic Rage packed to the brim with large dragons, high-power creatures, and flashy enchantments, very little room is left for one or two drop plays. Four adventurers have set out to make a name for themselves on the Sword Coast—the warlock Prosper, the paladin Galea, the barbarian Vrondiss, and the wizard Sefris. I also thought since some of the enrage enablers in the deck may kill my commander or some other big nasty I didn’t want dead, I had to build in ways to recur them, so I added Serpent Skin, Jolrael’s Favor (both of which can be played at instant speed) and Fortitude to help keep whichever creature I needed most at the time on the board.

This week I’m breaking down Draconic Rage, a Gruul beatdown deck that has a pretty heavy Dragon theme running in it. This web site may use the trademarks and other intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast LLC, which is permitted under Wizards' Fan Site Policy. Combat damage doesn't occur if you Fog, and combat damage is only dealt once for the total amount regardless of if it's split between creatures or players. The median result will be to ramp you by two basic lands and put two 3/3 creatures on the battlefield, and if you have dice-rolling synergies or token creature synergies, even the dreaded double one roll can still squeak out value. If your commander has first strike, you can even kill your opponent before their blockers crack back!I could see adding it into the 99 of Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant; Kardur, Doomscourge; and Thantis, the Warweaver too. For dice-rolling synergies – such as Vrondiss – there are plenty of new cards to choose from: Neverwinter Hydra, Berserker’s Frenzy, Maddening Hex, Wild Endeavor, Reckless Endeavor, Bag of Tricks, Component Pouch, and Underdark Rift.

While the relic makes you one mana per turn with the option to take a turn off for a two-mana turn later, Component Pouch forces you to use up both mana, but it'll occur more often thanks to the two-counter coin flip.Below, you'll find each deck, added day by day, with a link to where it was previewed sharing details about the new cards, contents, and playstyle for the deck!

That is not to say that the deck is not fun to play out of the box, ‘cos dropping big dragon-type things on opponents is always fun, but I do think there should be a solid focus on a particular direction should you wish to upgrade this deck and make it a bit more challenging for your opponents. Colossal Majesty requires a board presence for it to draw a card, but Outpost Siege guarantees a card, and the “Dragons” mode of the card is one the deck will choose frequently, since it can trigger Vrondiss, Rage of Ancients ’s Enrage ability multiple times. Even in the failure case, you can force your opponent to block with creatures they don't want to; just be aware that they can still add additional blockers to the mix afterward.Commander newcomer Dragonborn Champion makes pushing through damage that much more brutal for opponents, but rarely enters combat itself. Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient rewards the deck heavily for assembling a large attack, putting potentially dozens of mana into the pool for a flurry of damage-dealing spells in the second main phase. Data sources include Tcgplayer, Mtgtop8, Mtgmelee, Starcitygames, Wizards of the Coast, The Gatherer and many others. Every Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Commander Deck contains two traditional foil cards—one foil commander card and one featured foil legendary creature, including characters you may recognize from Forgotten Realms lore.

Some great reprints in the deck are Gratuitous Violence and Warstorm Surge, for some extra damage from your big creatures, Outpost Siege for some card advantage or to enable your commander’s ability to make dragon spirits, Dragonlord’s Servant and Dragonspeaker Shaman to enable the casting of dragons for less – always handy, Dragonmaster Outcast to just make more dragons in your upkeep and what dragon deck would be complete without the awesomeness of Atarka, World Render ? Each of these is under ten dollars apiece, but each one will add a substantial bit of power to your new Gruul deck. Surprisingly for a Gruul deck, one of the primary strengths of Draconic Rage is its abundance of card advantage.Even if you only connect twice, that's still stronger than your typical Lava Axe, and if you're playing Torbran, Thane of Red Fell, you're laughing.
